Why Bump & Balance exists
Having a baby comes with enough unknowns. Your money shouldn't have to be one of them.
Our mission
Make the financial side of maternity leave easier to understand.
So expecting parents can plan ahead with confidence, protect the lifestyle they've built and make decisions that feel right for their family.
Plan your leave. Protect your lifestyle.
What we believe
Private by default
Couples should be able to plan together without having to reveal every detail of their finances to each other.
Independent
Commercial partners never influence your calculations, savings target or planning results.
Practical, not preachy
We plan around the life you actually live — bills, takeaways, holidays, hobbies and all.
Simple
No intimidating spreadsheet and no unnecessary jargon. Just enough information to make a useful plan.
Day by day, month by month
We work through every day from today until you return to work. Before leave, we look at your normal income and spending. During leave, maternity pay changes automatically as you move between employer pay, statutory pay and any unpaid time — even when that happens mid-month.
Your savings target
We find the lowest point your savings would reach during leave, add any emergency fund you want left untouched, and compare that with what you already have. The gap is spread across the months before leave begins.
The statutory figures we use (2026/27)
- Statutory maternity pay: 90% of average weekly earnings for 6 weeks, then £194.32 a week (or 90% if lower) up to week 39.
- Earnings of at least £129 a week are usually needed to qualify.
- Statutory paternity pay: £194.32 a week (or 90% if lower), up to 2 weeks.
- Child Benefit (eldest child): £27.05 a week.
We convert maternity pay to take-home using the same ratio as your normal pay. It's a planning estimate, not a payroll calculation.
